Working by yourself is boring and makes the time go by so sloooowly! But don’t worry, we’re going to provide some help with Technology for Boomers!
Today I wanted to talk about some great free tools that you can use in your business or personal life to allow others to share the work with you.
I’m a big fan of google productivity tools. Best thing is that they’re free with your google account. But, please remember that if you’re getting a free service online (facebook, google, etc), your actions and data are what the company uses to pay for their products. They do this via marketing strategies and ads.
But if you’re ok with that, then your Google account provides some great tools. Setting up an account is simple, easy, and only takes a couple of minutes. Click here to sign up for you free google account
Once you’ve signed up, you’ll have access to the following:
- Gmail
- Google Calendar
- Google Sheets
- Google Docs
- Google Keep
- Google Slides
- Google Hangouts
Gmail
Using email is almost second nature in today’s world. But if you’d like some tips, click here for more info from Google
Google Calendar
Setting up your calendar is easy, but may initially take some time. Once you become familiar with setting up appointments and inviting others to them, you can also explore setting up group calendars and sharing that with others. This allows you to create a specific calendar for something (like grandkids soccer games) that can be shared with the family. Click here for more info!
Google Sheets & Docs
While these are separate products, I’m combining them because I think the real power is in how you can share these with others. Google Docs, is similar to Microsoft Word, it’s a document editor that allows you to create pretty nice documents. Google Sheets is similar to Microsoft Excel, it’s essentially a spreadsheet. It does have some differences but works very well. Both of these will meet the needs of most users. And given that they are free, that’s excellent. Click here for more info on Sheets or Docs!
Conclusion
For a free tool set, Google is hard to beat. Give it a try and let me know in the comments if you like it, hate it, or think I was crazy for suggesting it. Learning new technology for shouldn’t be too hard for boomers, just dig in and get started.
